Characters

A mature woman; Actual size=180 pixels wide

Todd. Is it spelled with one d or two? I don't know, so I'm going to go with two.

The main character. Yes, he does share the title with Copper, but Todd gets more screen time. We all know his story, but for the benefit of those who don't, here we go. In the opening sequence, we see Todd's mother get killed by hunters, but not before she leaves Todd beside a fence post. He's discovered by everyone's favorite overweight owl, Big Momma. She manages to lure Widow Tweed over to Todd, and she decides to take care of him. And for the rest of it, go watch the movie again. Or for the first time. The key concept here is that you watch the movie, you'll be glad you did.

Big Momma

Friend, advice giver, guide, match maker, romantic advisor, and overall kind owl. She is the one who tells Todd that Copper will most likely change much from the pup that he played with in his youth.  How sad, isn't it?  Don't we all wish to be young again?  I know I do.  I'm 20 years old at this point and I firmly believe that my best years are behind me.  But I guess I don't have any choice other than to try and make the best of what I've got.
Just like Todd did when he was dropped off in the game preserve.  He sucked it up, gritted his teeth, and found a porcupine to spend the night with...Ahem.  Sorry about that.  Let's get back to the character descriptions.

Copper

Copper is Todd's childhood friend, who must face a difficult situation after he comes back from his winter of training. He has now become a hunting dog, and tracking down foxes like Todd is his job. His decision is most difficult, in choosing between his past and his present.

It is also worth noting that the guy who provided the voice for young Copper, Corey Feldman, has had a very prolific acting career.  Keep your ears open and you may recognize his voice in several popular movies.  Among them are "The Goonies" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtules", where he provides Donatello's voice!  Hey, I didn't know that before I looked it up just now.  Cool!  In a related TMNT note, I did know that Robbie Rist, who provides Michaelangelo's voice, did the voice for Star in "Balto".  That's right, I'm just tossing out fun facts left and right!

A mature couple; Actual size=240 pixels wide

Vixey

Todd's, ahem, lady friend. Vixey comes to Todd's rescue after his first night in the game preserve, with Big Momma's help. She really doesn't have too much development, unfortunately. But it's not her fault, she only comes in for the second half of the movie. She stills plays an important role. Her favorite number is six apparently. Just what is she talking about there?

Anywho, I know you've seen Sandy Duncan, who provides Vixey's voice, in many movies.  I remember she was in a quality film titled "The Cat From Outerspace", among others.  Is it just me or does she look a lot like Mrs. Partridge from the Partridge Family?

Amos Slade

He's not quite as hillbillyish as the picture makes him look, by the way. Amos is the Widow's neighbor, as well as Copper and Chief's master. Oh yeah, he's quite fond of his shotgun. He's the closest the movie comes to a villian, but he's got his motivations, and is definately not evil.  I mean after all, did he not play Grandpa Joe in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolote Factory"?  Okay, so Grandpa did steal the fizzy lifting drink, but there was no harm done.  Actually I have a question- in the last scene, when Wonka tells Charlie that he doesn't get any candy because he stole fizzy liftink drink, doesn't Grandpa Joe's Argument not make any sense?  Charlie signed the agreement, then violated it.  Clearly he deserves no candy!  Whew, just had to get that off my chest.

Peering Cat

Widow Tweed. Okay, so it's not her, it's a peering cat. But I have no pictures of her, so this will have to do.

Well, Tweed is the old woman who takes Todd in. She cares for him very much, so much, that she puts his safety in front of her personal desires.  She's also willing to stand up to the shotgun-toting Amos Slade

Leopard

Chief. Once again, it's not him, but hey, it's got 4 legs.

Chief is Amos Slade's older dog, and was placed in charge of raising Copper. He's so good at his job that Copper turns out to be a better hunter than he is. Also, Chief ain't a big fan of Todd. I dig Chief's voice. One thing i'd like to do someday is to sniff the wind, and then claim that it's the master cooking grits and fatback. What is fatback, by the way?

Dinky(not pictured) and Boomer

So...Dinky and Boomer provide the comic relief in the movie. It's a required part of every animated movie, and the Fox and the Hound is no different. To be honest, they aren't my favorite characters, but they do their job. They spend most of the movie chasing a caterpillar named "Squeeks", who is pictured above.  He's the one on the left, by the way.  Heh heh.

You know, I think I'm saying "by the way" way too often.
